Stellar Jay Electrical Services, identified as “Stellar Jay” in this document, provides a minimum one (1) year warranty on most materials and workmanship. Eligibility, exclusions, and additions for any warranty is specified in this document.
1 - Conditions of Warranty
1.1 - Stellar Jay shall provide a material warranty for materials that:
a - Have been purchased by Stellar Jay.
b - Have been installed by an Electrician in the employ of Stellar Jay at the time of installation.
c - Are not a lamp, bulb, or other means of light emitting device unless it is an LED integrated in the fixture.
d - Are not sacrificial in nature such as fuses, surge protection, reactive anode, mechanical protection, or similar.
e - Are not covered by a manufacturer warranty.
f - Have been installed, invoiced, and paid in full.
g - Have been inspected by ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) for renovations and new builds.
1.2 - The material being replaced shall be replaced by an identical unit if available, or by an equivalent unit if the material in question is no longer available.
1.3 - Stellar Jay will not compensate the customer in any fashion for lost use of the material, time taken off work, or any other obligations to provide access to perform the repair, or any other losses or damages claimed as a result of the material’s failure.
1.4 - Workmanship warranties are eligible for:
a - Materials not installed as per manufacturer specifications
b - Materials not installed as per customer specifications that:
i - Had submitted the specifications in writing prior to installation
ii - Do not violate manufacturer, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Building Code, or any other legal requirements
c - A single bottom trim calibration for dimmers
d - A single light colour temperature for devices with integral adjustments built into the device
1.5 - Stellar Jay shall not charge labour to the customer for warranty claims that:
a - Are being claimed within the first 365 days.
b - Are specifically pertaining to quality of workmanship.
c - Being performed on behalf of a third party whom which is compensating Stellar Jay for the repair.
1.6 - Stellar Jay shall charge labour to the customer for warranty claims that:
a - Are being claimed 366 days or more from the start of coverage.
b - Have been proven to fall out of eligibility.
c - A service call charge shall be billed for site visits to confirm eligibility of coverage and the claim has been proven to be ineligible.
1.7 - Stellar Jay will not provide financial compensation in lieu of warranty.
2 - Termination and Exclusions of Warranty
2.1 - Stellar Jay reserves the right to terminate warranty coverage should any of the following occur:
a - The material has been tampered with, altered, damaged, or has received any interrferance from anyone other that an electrician under Stellar Jay’s employ.
b - Been damaged by outside events such as animals, construction debris, fire, water, power surge, or any other similar outside interference.
c - The material was used in a manner not intended by the manufacturer.
d - The material was not maintained as per manufacturer recommendations or requirements.
e - The material in question has not been paid for in full and is included in an invoice that has lapsed by 90 days or more.
2.2 - Stellar Jay excludes warranty coverage for existing materials and installations to which a new material has been connected or affixed to.
2.3 - Stellar Jay is not liable for minor damages to surrounding materials while performing a repair or replacement. This includes but is not limited to:
a - Paint that has peeled, chipped, or scuffed
b - Drywall that has chipped, cracked, scuffed or has paper lifted
c - Blemishes to finished surfaces of materials being installed or replaced if they are a result of required tools for installation
2.4 - Product recalls are excluded from warranty eligibility. Recalls are the responsibility of the manufacturer to honour. Requests for service to perform recalls is the responsibility of the property owner.
2.5 - Products that have a manufacturer specific warranty are not eligible for warranty by Stellar Jay. The warranty is the responsibility of the manufacturer to honour.
3 - Warranty Schedules
3.1 - Warranty coverage begins as follows:
a - As per the installation date indicated of the material provided
b - On the final invoice issuance date for:
i - Service calls
ii - Maintenance
iii - Residential renovation contracts with a total value not exceeding $5,000 before tax
c - 30 days before the final invoice issuance date for:
i - New home contracts with a total value not exceeding $60,000 before tax
ii - Residential renovation contracts with a total value exceeding $5,000 before tax
d - 60 days before the final invoice issuance date for:
i - New home contracts with a total value exceeding $60,000 before tax
ii - Commercial contracts
3.2 - Duration of warranty coverage is as follows:
a - 365 days (1 year) for the following qualified materials:
i - General electrical devices such as:
1 - Switches
2 - Receptacles
3 - Dimmers
4 - Timers
5 - Humidistats
6 - Photo control devices
7 - Occupancy/Vacancy devices
8 - Smoke, CO, and fire detection devices
ii - Distribution equipment such as:
1 - Breakers that are not refurbished or salvaged for use in discontinued load centers or panels.
2 - Panels and load centers
3 - Disconnects
4 - Troughs and junction boxes
5 - Meter sockets
iii - Lumiares such as:
1 - Pot lights
2 - Light fixtures
3 - Accent lighting
b - 730 days (2 years) for the following qualified materials:
i - Lotus accent lighting
ii - Caseta smart home devices
c - 1825 days (5 years) for the following qualified materials:
i - Panasonic pick-a-flow bathroom exhaust fans
ii - DALS puck and linear strip lighting
4 - Making a Claim
4.1 - Claims are to be made in writing to Stellar Jay. Claims should include:
a - Invoice number
b - Details of the material in question
c - Details of the reason for the request
4.2 - The date indicated on the e-mail or SMS message shall be used as the effective claim date
4.3 - Phone calls and voice messages will not qualify as an attempt to make a claim nor as a time reference for making a claim.
4.4 - Claims can not be made retroactively to the date indicated on the e-mail or SMS message.
